My video card only has one mode for 2048x1536, and that is 60Hz. I would think it would work, but I want to make sure because #1 I know that setting stuff like that (with video cards and monitors) the wrong way can damage hardware. And #2, my video card's software (It's a Nvidia Geforce4 MX) detects that my monitor doesn't support the mode. But I think it might be because it's not a "preset mode" on the monitor. See specs below.

Video Card Spec
2048x1536 resolution at 60MHz

Monitor Spec
Highest preset resolution 1600 x 1200 at 85 Hz
Highest addressable resolution* 2048 x 1536 at 80 Hz
Additional Details

(I posted a question like this just alittle bit ago, but the spec was wrong about the video card refresh rate. The only thing I can think of is because it's an 8x AGP but its running at 4x because thats what my MoBo is.)

Think of it like a Speed Limit on the highway.

If the speed limit is 75, there's nothing wrong with going 70.

If your monitor will go 2048*1536 @ 80hz, then 60hz will work just fine.

Although, it might flicker a little and you'll have little tiny icons and printing.

The video will be much more stable at a lower resolution at a higher refresh rate. Compare your options.

Yes that will work perfectly fine. In fact it will increase the life span of your monitor but will increase potential for lag on demanding movies or games (potentially, but unlikely)

It wont hurt anything to try. If it doesnt work then it will just revert itself to the previous setting that worked.
