Creationists are not typically criticized for having the religious beliefs that they have. Many people possess the religious beliefs they have based generally on the kind of religion they were brought up in, and affected by their later experiences as adults, but in a tolerant society people's religious beliefs are usually respected.
The problem with creationism in particular is that many creationists go beyond their religious belief and start pretending that creationism is scientific, which is not true. It is the false claims made by creationists in connection with relevant areas of science (such as in geology, paleontology, astronomy, physics, and so on) that are being appropriately criticized, because these claims are wrong.
Creationism is based on religious belief, not science. With respect to scientific discoveries, the religious doctrine of young earth creationism especially is known to be completely wrong, since it is a scientific fact that the earth and the universe have been in existence for billions of years rather than just 6,000 or 10,000 years.

The separation of church and state.
Most people aren't "against" creationists - they just don't want religion taught in public schools. If a parent wants their child to learn about Christianity and Adam and Eve they can go to Sunday school. We live in a free country, there are no laws keeping you from going to church.

I'm not against creationists. I'm against creationsm. I mean, I strongly oppose the theory, because I think it's been largely proved wrong. But I won't attack or despise its followers. I will only say I disagree, but that's not being against you, right?

People go against concepts they don't believe in, because they don't believe in them. If a government kept trying to tell you that cannibalism was ok and good, I would think, that you would not accept it.

OK, I'm confused. It takes faith to believe that Someone much more powerful than ourselves created everything, but it doesn't take faith to believe that...
In the beginning there was NOTHING, IT EXPLODED, and here we are...
Still confused!!
Much Love!!

Because the most logical answer tends to be the right one. Oh, and because you can't prove it.
