I don't consider what Israel is doing as being justifiable self-defense! This has totally been escalated out of proportion, and I have no idea how many international laws Israel has broken and defied! I am aghast at how this has been defended or justified by the superpowers of the modern world! Despite any biases of race or religion, all the peoples of the world should stand up and say, "Stop the fighting!" to their leaders! Hundreds of innocent civilians are being targeted and slaughtered for something they did not do nor have the power to control! Lebanon and it's civilians are a small defenseless country and are paying the price with their homes, livelihoods, and their lives! Children are dying! This is not war...this is not justified...this is not right!

I too have come to the conclusion that the Jews which survived the Holocaust and made it to Israel( a nation created in 1948 by the UN as penance and in empathy for the Jews when Israel was carved out of the occupied region based in part on the understanding of the Jewish Religion's roots) have somehow lost all reason and are behaving in morally unjustifiable ways trying to solve by military means their problems with the Palestinians (who I repeat) were or have been displaced by the creation of Israel as far back as 1948.) I totally understand that the Jews were almost exterminated by the genocidal policies of Hitler and his cohorts which harbored hatred for all Jews(something I still can't explain), while the rest of the world (some of them were Anti-Semites too) just stood by and did nothing until they had to. I also understand why the surviving Jews vowed never to be treated that way again to be abused and humiliated by anyone who were or became their enemy.( I have read books by Leon Uris)

That said, I feel that the Israeli government has now devolved into treating the displaced Palestinians in some of the many demeaning, dehumanizing ways that the Jews in Europe suffered leading up to and during WWII . The Palestinian Arab leadership have reciprocated similarily because, like the Jews , both of them subscribe to the lowest form of the principle of Justice known in the OT as "an eye for an eye. That principle when adhered to leads into a vicious cycle of violence and vengeance that won't end until the parties to the cycle choose to behave like civilized human beings who can set aside their religious,ethnic,social, cultural, and racist hatreds, and focus all their efforts on living a good life together in peace building a better society in the Middle East

Life is precious and most of the people on all sides just want to enjoy life, but it is the terrorists and the religious extremists on all sides who are driving the conflict to no good purpose. In my book these are the evil s**theads who need to be condemned and imprisoned or eliminated.

Both sides are obviously mad and tired and want to end the impasse but to do so nonviolently would be preferable to short circuit the violence cycle. None of the parties to the Arab-Israeli conflict have a moral leg to stand on( I have asked that Q and no one could provide the moral justification for knowingly killing innocents trapped in the crossfire.)

The way I see it, if Israel were to give into there demands, they would just want more. These Palestinians have no honor and would exploit Israel for more and more until Israel would finally not be able to give anymore and would have to fight anyway. Israel NEEDS to fight, to save the honor of the captured men, and to keep the morale of the troops. The people over there want to get there loved ones back but they also know in a week they would do something else to provoke Israel. Unless Israel shows its strength and roots out these cowards, there will never be peace. I say go Israel, you are making the world safer for all.
