Wow, that is a broad brush that you paint the world with.

The actions of a few Catholic priests have not corrupted the entire clergy. Likewise, many Protestant and other religious leaders have done similar crimes. Yes, you should be careful where you leave your children, but that does not mean when you're in the confessional with a Father you need to lie to him. The reason you're in a confessional with a Catholic priest is to get your sins off your chest and be cleansed by God's forgiveness.

If I was Catholic and went to confessional, of course I would tell the whole truth. I'd spill everything evil and wicked I did so I could be clean and pure again in the eyes of God. What does it matter what a priest thinks? He is there to forgive. If you lie to him, then there's really no point in going to confessional.

That's the whole point of confessing; You have to say what's REALLY happening. The only way you'll feel truly free is if you speak the truth and relieve your soul out. Sure, not all priests are untrustworthy these days. There are still loyal priests out there. My advice is that you not lie about it, as embarassing as your secret may be. After all, you do know that no matter what you say, only you and God know the truth; all in all, don't lie!

When I was younger I went to a Catholic school and had to go to Confession once every 2 weeks. If we didn't sin, the one nun would call us liars. So a lot of us would go into the confessional and lie to the priest just so the nun would leave us alone.

I bet you always leave them with something to think about. How hard could it be to spoof a priest. And what could he say about it if he found out

Silly rituals for a silly religion. If you are uncomfortable with Catholicism, try one of the many other cults available...
