Supposedly my husband said I had put it on the computer and you could get peoples passwords and everything. I have no idea how I did it as never heard of it before.

He is the one who can get your passwords and everything! Why? Because you put it on your computer!
Use a firewall like zone alarm to check which program is going out to your system. Then when you found out, remove it.

He was probably talking about spyware.
Spyware is a program that can silently record various information about your computer (web sites visited, hardware profile, keys pressed, passwords, credit cards).
But, don't worry, there's a way to remove it. Download Spybot: Search and Destroy right here : http://www.spybot.com
It's easy to use and it does a pretty good job of removing most spyware
