I think the next president will use the first legitimate excuse to get as many of our troops out as we can.

But we'll have a presence in the area...Qatar for at least 10 years

I can not make any predictions on the war in Iraq, but the USA will have some type of presence in Iraq as long as the Middle East is a major supplier of our oil.

Umm... we are not at war with Iraq now. We are now trying to stabalize the place so that people can get back to living. The fighting is with the zealots who want to wrest power from those who would instill democracy in that country.

I don't believe for very long. The escalating civil strife ( read civil war) will force a withdrawal. To remain in that instance is unthinkable.

If we stay the course. we will probably be facing combat in that country for the next five years, less hopefully.
