Please, don't just assert that there is no moral justification--I have challenged the supporters of the conflict to give me the specific reasons and the ethical principles which justify the behavior of knowingly killing innocents that play no part in the conflict between the parties at war and which by no definition I know constitute morally valid acts of immediate self-defense.
Why can't the answerers try harder to give us all that justification in a rational manner?

When I ask you to justify, I don't want an assertion, I want an answer that tells me and anyone interested in morals and ethics why exactly it is morally right (or wrong) to kill or maim innocents caught in the crossfire between two sides trying to kill each other. Why means give me reasons ie moral values or ethical principles that make such killings right. Doesn't anyone know how to answer ethical/moral Q's except to make ignorant or uninformed or unreflected statements of their personal biases and their interests?

Message to Bobby D I sent email to you that said:Why can't you try to answer the Q like an intelligent human being and not like a terrorist thinks. Do you have any background in ethics or morality beyond the self-centered point of view we are all born with but many of us grow out of as we suffer and cause others to suffer by our actions.

It's either kill or be killed. What other answer is there?
Obviously you've never been in a situation where it's kill or be killed. You can explain morals and justification all you want, it's not going to matter when you have an AK-47 shoved in your face.

No real, legitimate, Jew or Moslem approves of the deliberate targeting and killing of civilians.
The problem is, Hezbollah, which is a political organization, cynically uses both the Islamic religion and the Islamic people for their own political ends, without regard to human life, Jewish or Arabic. (Which is why Hezbollah deliberately bombed the Israeli ARAB city of Nazareth yesterday, killing two Israeli Arab children, aged 4 and 9).
For 10 years Hezbollah has been placing Missile and Rocket launchers in apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, etc. in Lebanon, and firing at Israeli cities and civilians.
For 10 years, Israel responded at a low level, always protecting the human shields used by Hezbollah. An additional problem is that these human shields (the adults) did so willingly. That parents would not only allow, but actually volunteer, their own children to be used by these "militants" boggles the mind.
Israel has now been pushed to its limits. No country can allow missiles to fall on its major cities without responding. With missiles now raining on Haifa, the third largest city, (the Israeli equivalent of, say Atlanta, or Boston), Israel has no options left. They must take out the missile launchers. They have no options. If it happened in the US, our response would be, stop the missiles at any cost, and let the enemy worry about the civilians.
Israel has a duty to protect its citizens, and it can not stop to protect foreign citizens while ignoring its own .
The real question is: Why do the Arab populace allow these leaders to continue year after year. Since 1948 (the creation of the modern state of Israel), these leaders have consistently led their own people into one military adventure after another, with all of them ending in disaster. Yet, in the name of some convoluted form twisted Islam, the people accept this.
I just don't get it.

War is never moral and it goes beyond a simple religious dispute. This isn't about religion anyomre...it's about politics and power. It isn't a war with a Jew or a Muslim (<--correct spelling) but between Israelis and Arabs. Those two races forfeited their rights to become Jews or Muslims the day they shed blood for the stupidest of reasons ---->power. I'm a Muslim convert and I've seen both sides of the fence. Both have had their share of atrocities and to tell you frankly I'm sick of it. If these two nations believe so much in God, then they should know that God first taught all people to love one another and be tolerant of other peoples' differences. I pity both innocent Jews and Muslims caught in the crossfire. As far I'm concerned, these Israelis and Arabs can both kill each other until both of them are gone and the new believers in God, whether Christian or Muslim can finally live in peace.

As was said before, the hezbollah and Hamas hide within civilian areas. They hide in schools, hospitals, mosques, houses. They dont care about who dies on their side. Its a proven fact that Hezbollah and Hamas use human shields. Proven by the UN in an investigaion 6 years ago. Israel warns the people in Lebanon but Hezbollah keeps them there, and then cry out about how could Israel target innoncent men, women and children. Also thank you SOUL REBEL for being a frigin anti-semit, cuz u know for a fact that Israel does not attack anyone and that all the Radical MUSLIMS want is to destroy Israel and any other non-muslim in the world. Sadly this view is shared by many muslims. Israel did not steal land from the arabs. There was a mass migration to israel of Arabs, mostly muslim in the early 1900's. They massacred 67 jews in Hebron and drove the rest out. Then they claimed they lived there for centuries. and the British did nothing to help (they occupied the land then). And i do my reaserch, so dont tell me im wrong.

You should be able to make your own mind with this link http://fromisraeltolebanon.info/?...
However Watch Out- Kids or sensitive persons pass your way.
No one can justify/legitimate the execution of innocents at such a large scale and the destruction of a country in something, said by some, to be a "war" but that does not respect the Geneva Convention.
It is Horror and all civilized countries should act to put an end to this...

If a hijacked civilian airliner with 150 innocents on board was headed toward the Super Bowl with 80,000 people in attendance and and you had to make the decision NOW whether to shoot down that plane...
What would you do?
Life (including government, war, terrorism and especially leadership) is not built on a series of perfect decisions that no one could ever find fault with.
Leadership is not evidenced by hand-wringing and endless deference and negotiation (least of all with the likes of Saddam Hussein, Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Quaida, Taliban, North Korea, Iran and the French).

Regardless of any circumstances, I will never agree to the justification in the killing of innocent people in the name of war or "self-defense!" I would not expect to have my life or that of my family be the payment for the injustices of the world. I have friends visiting Lebanon at this time, and there is no word on if they are okay or if they are able to leave and return to Canada!
NO ONE CAN TELL ME THAT A CHILD SHOULD BE SACRIFICED!
How do you tell your kids that their childhood friend went on holidays and suddenly got caught up in a war zone?! I"ll have no idea what to say if she doesn't make it home safely!
I refer to the question asked by toine ( I hope with his agreement) to add to this subject!http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmsFngaTIoxkiemHirdfaAnAFQx.?qid=20060720203138AAtsjqQ

There is None. It's A War - Innocents People do die in a war.
Morality does not define on this kind of conflict. They are fighting for their rights and their own protection. Its like in a school when somebody pushes you, tendency you push back, you push harder. Israel was Pushed real hard, that's why they push back real harder.

The terrorists hide behind women and children, hide in hospitals etc etc. Israel drops leaflets advising people to leave the area. If they don't they die like a soldier. The thing is, cowardly terrorists won't allow them to leave. Then when they die they parade them before cameras and blame the west and Israel.
