Why do we have traditions? What value do you place on them? Is there really a point to them?

Traditions are handed down from generation to generation. Why do we have them? Why not? My family has passed on many traditions that I have in turn passed down to my daughter and when my grandson is old enough he will in turn pass them on to his children. It all boils down to having a strong family bond. I come from a large family and also come from 2 different cultures so tradition is a really big thing in my family.

thats alot of questions:)
personaly i have my own thanksgiving traditions.. its at my house every year. now i cook the staples and its important that my family gets crammed into my house.. even with boyfriends girlfriends and extras.
i told the rest of my family that if something is done the same way for more than 5 years its labled a family tradition. and of course theres a point to them without traditions we wouldnt have all those lovely holidays to prepare for:)

A tradition is a way to perpetuate your families (blood line) practices in society. As such, it can be perceived as a sort of immortality.
