Isn't some space object supposed to hit the earth that year or is that the year we blow ourselves to kingdom come with an all-out nuclear war?
Why is 2012 so significant?

It's come to significance through study of the Mayan Long Count calendar. On 12-21-2012, the 13th Baktun begins (a Baktun is 396 years long). Also on that date is a grand astronomical alignment at dawn between the sun and the Milky Way which only happens every 26,000 years. This alignment signified the start of a new world age to the Maya. A lot of monster-shouters say this means it's the end of our world but if you look around you'll see our world is long over! We're just waiting for the new one to begin.
PS The calendar does NOT end on this date!

I know based on Mayan/Aztec astrological information that is supposed to be the case, but I don't believe so. How many people said theworld was endin in hte year 2000? The year 2012 is not REALLY the year 2012 anyway....so who knows, and most importantly, who can control such a thing but God.

The same way the world ended in 1988. Only God knows that.
Maybe it has to do with repeating digits? 1988 was the first one in a long series of years that all have at least one digit that repeats

no it just marks the end on the mian calendar and the aninuki are coming to take us back home
