An outlaw and criminal differ. A criminal is someone who commits a crime whethe once or plenty of times. He could be the driver of a speeding car, a jay walker, a peeping tom. Can you see the direction of a criminal? An outlaw is ruthless. Not even necessary committing crimes. He could just be unethical. Bad manners or rudeness isn't a crime. An outlaw is someone who goes around with no regard for the law, ON PURPOSE. A criminal may have regards but committ a crime. Ever dropped gum wrapper or cigarette butt out the window by second nature or instinct. Blue laws in local city government are unknown sometimes and we get fined for crazy things. Martha Stewart would sound crazy as an outlaw and saying Billy the Kid is just a criminal. Hope i answered your question.

A criminal doesn't necessarily have to be caught. Ex. The criminal was never identified.

An outlaw is someone who has been in jail, or is wanted for a crime. Ex. The outlaw escaped once again.

Also, criminal is a more current term.

I believe a criminal is someone who purposed in their heart and mind that they would commit a crime just because they knew they could. I think an outlaw could be that or someone who committed a crime in order to do good. For instance, an outlaw...I think...can be someone who is outside of the perameters of the law, but in order to right a severe wrong or to prevent a severe wrong.

Clampnugget,

While all criminals are outlaws,
not all outlaws are criminal.

You might have broken the law,
say by not paying your parking tickets =
you broke the law, but you committed no crime.

You murdered someone, so you committed a
crime and broke the law.

Helps!
Just stick to the law of the land!

Ladies love outlaws like babies love stray dogs.
Ladies touch babies like a banker touches gold.
Outlaws touch ladies somewhere deep down in their soul.

Criminals are just plain rotten folk.
