Patek Phillipe is gold, with swiss movement. replica is not gold, with japanese movement. patek waterproof, replica is not. replica does not weigh as much. crystal on replica is glass, patek uses fine leaded crystal. etc, etc, etc.

500 is too much for replica. you could probably get for 100-150.

also: replica usually have movement encased in plastic, original is mounted on metal frame (inside the case). inspect the face, everything should be precise, lettering, numerals, etc. often the sweep of the hands is not smooth. and of course the hands should be properly attached to the main pin. inside, original will have more jewels, 27, or 31, probably. replica may have only 25.

I'm sure there are subtle differences that distinguish the real watch from the replica, but it's doubtful that anyone can tell at a glance what they are, and even an expert in watches might have some doubts.

As for me, I consider a $500 watch, whether it is a replica of a much more expensive one or not, to be extremely accurate and of high quality in its own right, especially with the warranty and all. Some of those fabulous fakes look more authentic than their pricey counterparts.

So wear it proudly, and let the casual observers think you've either struck gold, inherited a fortune, or reached the pinnacle of success in your career.
