I've been raising them for pets but lately they don't sell.

My herd comes from the best stock that was used for fur, but I had moderate success selling them.

Now they're making a lot of good healthy babies again and maybe I need to give some away just to make room.

This is not a solicitation. Just some helpful ideas. They make great pets if you know how to take care of them.

I'm in Sacramento, California and would love a baby.
Other than that, put a flyer up at schools. The schools would probably take one or 2 as class pets.

(I'm) Reiterating what you already know, Chinchilla fur pieces are used for hoods, cuffs and collars and are attached to very expensive winter coats ($3,000 or so) purchased by the rich and used in cold climates. I suspect environmentalists and global warming are having an effect on the sales of chinchilla furs here in America but also that chincilla pelts are coming from overseas now at a lower cost.

20 years ago I was gifted my mother's mink stole and fox furs, and I acknowledged when purchased they were expensive and when I came to Florida I was very surprised to see at Goodwill a large table just piled high with those expensive fur coats people couldn't wear anymore in the heat. I suspect some of those have been purchased and are selling on eBay at a low price.

In addition I don't know how quickly chinchillas populate but those are the reasons I believe your sales are down.

The only place I could find on the net that even resembled a place you could sell your chinchillas to might be United States Fur Exchange, or at least get an idea who is manufacturing the coats and then contact that (or those) company.

Awwww....hey...I'm not racist and I hope no one is offended by this remark, but it's been my experience that white chicks LOVE them. LOL I know so many white girls who adore having chinchillas for pets. They take real good care of them and they sorta take the place of having kids to these chicks. I would go straight to suburbia and sell one with a cute collar on it to a white chick and give her a care booklet with some toys and let her go at it! She's going to tell all of her friends and there you got a whole new clientele. Good Luck
