What do you think about not giving a woman an epidural or any pain medication and then telling her not to make any noise during labor and delivery? I was in labor for 19 hours before I took the epidural and there was nothing silent about it!

I was in labor for 42 hours with my first child, and I had no meds - not because I didnt want them, but apparently my husband told the nurses I didnt. When I asked, they were obeying his wishes (he didnt attend the birth of my second child). Anyways, I didnt make any sound during delivery, because it just hurt so damn much that I couldnt do anything! Apparently, it is possible.

I think some man thought that would be a good idea. He probably didn't like to be reminded that women are actually stronger than men in many aspects of life. He probably didn't like that the woman was getting even more attention. He probably didn't want her to get more credit than he thought she was due. He felt that if she was silent, then he could say, see, no big deal. I'd like to see him remain silent if someone plucked a hair off his chest never mind asked him to squeeze a cantaloupe out of a hole the size of the birth canal. What an ***! I bet he grunts when he takes a sh*t.

yeah i think that's an impossible extreme. No woman should ever be expected to give birth silently, no medication. It's just not right. In a few weeks I plan to have a natural birth (my second daughter), but trust and believe, there will be noise!

I say what are they going to come up with next. The mother not allowed to be present during her own labor.I fin it rather silly to state to a woman about to give birth now no matter how much pain your in we are not giving you anything and you can't make any noise.I've had two births first one hurt like heck but the second was worst. My second one was induced two weeks early. She weighed 8lbs.15 1/2ounces and I screamed all the way through it.You let one man try that and they would be begging to be knocked out.I know what they are trying to do by having as little noise as possible but I still say it is going to far.

I can't see any way that you can be silent during child birth I had a c-section and I could not shut up , I would love to see the creator of the religious law have a baby then talk lol

If you are talking about the belief of Scientologist the silent birth is greatly misunderstood. What they mean by silent birth is no noise from the room and others. Mother can make as much noise as she wants.

in a word- ASSININE. to expect a woman to pass an object roughly the size of a bowling ball without making any noise is stupid in the extreme- any man that thinks it can be done is more than welcome to swallow a bowling ball, and show the whole world just how tough he is!

(and since I didn't start the Scientology thing- it's assinine to follow a religion made up over a bet- L. Ron Hubbard bet Robert A. Heinlein that the American people were so stupid that he could start a religion- Heinlein sent Hubbard the check for 1000 dollars and never spoke to him again)

I prefer the childbirth method of a group of people in Mexico. The wife gets to tie a string to the husband's personal property and pull on the string during contractions.

This is a practice that Scientologists often pursue.

Something about Xenu coming to take the baby and the mother if she makes a noise during childbirth.

If you can manage it, more power to you. When I have my kids in the future...

Painkillers here I come.

I think it's a bunch of crock. and that the man who came up with the idea needs to try pushing a watermelon out of his....you know what...and see if he can keep from screaming. But if there was less yelling by the nurses and doctors and other people who happen to be there, that would be a huge relief.
