There are many shelters around. Ask you local police - they know where they all are, and they are usually known to very few individuals. Good luck!

It really depends on the area that you are in. You can do a google search and look up domestic violence shelters in your area or even do it the old fashion way and it look it up in the phone book.
When I was in an abusive marriage, the shelter offered to keep me until I could get to my family. Some will hold you between 24-72 hours, depending on how crowded they are. Some may even hold you longer, but they will not let you go without getting you the proper help and protection

if you are looking for one, you can usually find one by looking in the front section of your phone book, which usually lists social service hotlines. there should be a domestic violence hotline wherever you live, probably with an 800 number. they can tell you where the nearest one is.

if you are the battered spouse, get yourself to a safe place as soon as you can. you do not deserve to be hurt.

use local yahoo to search for shelters, not knowing what part of the country you are from (which is good you left that off) makes it difficult.

Depends on your area...do a search on the internet, or call the police department -- not 911 -- and ask them.
