Is it the correct cable.

Is it loose? When this happens to mine, its usually because its loose, so I have to jiggle it. Also, your USB port may be blocked, go to Control Panel/Device Manager and see if anything is "blocked" or has a yellow slash thru it.

Is your computer windows 98 or is it XP?
XP should automatically recognize/see you mp3 device.
98 could be much more involved as far as setup and loading of drivers and such.
You may need to reload the software that came with your mp3 device back on your computer again.

The cable itself won't appear on your pc. it is the mp3 participant that exhibits up. What you will would desire to do is reinstall the mp3 participant. it is going to right away do it.

Did you install it from the installation and drivers cd. You may need to do that if you have not done so.
