If being gay IS natural, then why is it written about in such the way that it was in the bible? Is the bible written wrong, or is God a liar? Please I want your serious thought on this. Question from a struggling christian.

I'm not going to say the Bible is incorrect, but it was written by Jewish men. At the time it was written, the Romans were in control of the Jews, and the Jewish people resented it, to say the least. Homosexuality was common among Roman men, so it only makes sense that it (along with other things the Romans did) was considered evil.

In reference to the Sodom and Gomorrah story, I personally believe it is not speaking out against homosexuality. You see, when the angels came, the neighbors demanded to "know" them, but Lot refused. Instead, he offered them his daughters, saying they were better because they were virgins. The villagers refused, and I'm sure you're familiar with how it ends... I think it's more of a look at inhospitality and rudeness rather than homosexuality.

Finally, I want to comment on the passages that do talk about homosexuality. There aren't many. The one in Leviticus should not qualify because if everyone followed Leviticus, we couldn't play football, wear pearls, eat shellfish, wear cotton/lycra blend clothing, etc. However, I personally am quite interested in what the Bible had written before it as the word homosexual only became a word in the 1800s.

I don't think you're gonna find out that answer until you get to Heaven (IF you get to Heaven). I read the first few pages in The Bible and got the feeling that it was giving men a reason to be sexist against women. I don't think The Bible would have the kind of support it does if it didn't cater to the kind of people that already lived in "that" region...The Bible keeps selling you the idea that God is fair and just and I"m sure compared to the numerous dictators that lived there, he is/was...what kind of compassionate being would destroy an entire town just b/c they were gay? Being gay is a sin. If you read THE ENTIRE Bible you will find ALL KINDS of things that aren't supposed to be done. Murder is a sin, yet it's also human nature. I probably would have done it myself a few times even if society wasn't so against it! Promiscuous sex is also a sin, yet it's human nature. I don't think society's dissapproval of it ever stopped people from doing it though b/c it's a chemical instinct not an emotional or mental one. The tip of it is, if you REALLY WANT to be a Christian, read your Bible and if you don't understand all of it or any of it, it doesn't matter. The Bible isn't about battle of the brains. It's about obeying God's wishes, regardless of what he asks. If you're just trying to go by your perception of what "society" wants, then drop it, 'cause I don't think you're cut out for it...there's no danger to not being a Christian, except MAYBE you'll go to Hell; here's the thing, though: god SHOWS you how wrong you are about your perception of him when you go there and THAT'S how you suffer. If you know you're right about your dislike of God and/or his policies, then you'll know you're right when you see what God shows you at the end of the tunnel. There are alternate paths, I suggest you read your Bible first if that's what you intend and it probably will take a while, depending on how easily distracted or busy you are with your life. I also suggest taking notes on ANYTHING that MIGHT be useful to know later, when reading a different passage in The Bible, 'cause a lot of it could be put together and it'd make more sense that way, but it isn't...(which is another thing I have against it, but anyway...). If you don't like what I'm saying, I do hope you find a better answer. Take Care ~ Jonathan

It is in our fleshly nature to sin. Blame Adam! God is not a liar. It is unnatural for our bodies in the sense that males were made for females. Just like a puzzle piece, but it is natural for people to want to sin in the absence of Christ. You must ask the Lord to help you with this! This is a sin issue. People are tempted in different ways to sin. It sounds like this might be your sin issue. Some people have a hard time with wanting to steal or lying. Some people are tempted to commit adultry more than others. Some people are tempted to do other perverted acts more than others. Homosexuality perverts the purpose of the male and female bodies. It is unnatural in the sense where neither two females nor two males can have sex without going to extreme measures such as attachments or through the back end. If you've got to go through all of that for sex, then something is wrong. Males and females fit together like puzzle pieces without gizmos needed. I hope I'm getting through to you with my logic. Plus, only man and woman can produce a child. Personally, I wouldn't doubt if birth control pills, some other medication, or maybe the hormones in our hamburgers is causing some chemical imbalance. I really think someone should look into homosexuality as a health condition, either physiological or mental. SOMETHING is wrong! And even if something isn't wrong, physiological or mental, it is still sin. It's one of those no nos that will send you to hell without God's forgiveness. But, he will forgive if you accept his work on the cross and repent.

First, you have to ask yourself: Why do you consider the Bible a credible source?

Some people worship the Bible. And if you want to worship the Bible instead of God, then that is your call. If you seek to follow God, then you should ask him whether homosexuality is wrong. All the Bible will tell you is what some men want you to believe....and those men are dead now.

So, I don't think God is a liar, because he has never spoken out against homosexuality. I'd say the fact that his creation routinely engages in homosexual behavior shows that God advocates it.

My personal opinion is that some people are born with the tendency to be gay just like some people are born with the tendency to become alcoholics.

If a person with the tendency to become an alcoholic (say they have a strong family history) but never takes a drink then they have avoided the temptation.

A person who is gay yet never yields to the temptation to be with someone with the same sex would not have sinned.

Don't know if my analogy makes any since but I hope you get the idea.

Also, remember that Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that means all the sins we have committed and will commit have already been forgiven.

The writers of biblical times did not look upon homosexuality as a "proper" and "holy" thing, like the life of hederosexuality. Even if god "said" to put homosexuality in the bible, the writters may not have done it. Also, King James had the bible "edited". Hence the "King James Version"

It was never directly commented on in the Old Testament of the bible.

If you are talking the Soddom and Gamora story, that can be construed in a number of ways. It could have just been talking about forcable rape as being bad.

If you are talking about the New Testament letters, those were written by men, no more, no less, with their own personal biases coloring their commentary.

(not to mention that all of it has been edited, translated, retranslated ad infinitum and who knows how accurate those translations and copies are.)

That's a very good, very serious question indeed. Maybe God's a homophobe, like every other redneck in the world. I certainly believe that homosexual's brains are wired differently, that it's not a choice. But I certainly couldn't believe that God wouldn't keep up with these liberal times. I'm sure he's started lettin homos back in by now. Someone might sue him.
