Thirst is a late sign of dehydration. 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day are required to simply break even with your daily water requirement. If you are on a water restriction for blood pressure control or kidney problems, always consult your doctor.
If you are in a hot environment, you will need even more water to balance out your needs.Symptoms of dehydration are: dizziness when you go from sitting to standing, dry lips, urinating less often, dry skin, altered mental status. Drinking water is your best bet. Gatorade and Powerade are made for athletes that need the carbs and sugar for performance. Try drinking one glass of water for every glass of Gatorade. Your kidneys will process it quicker and it will be abosorbed much easier. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and just sip thoughout your meeting or day. Stay away from caffeine, as it is a natural diuretic and you will loose more water from your body. Propel and Dasani waters are good, if you are having a problem with plain water. A dash of lemon or lime sometimes makes the water taste better.

The way to stay hydrated is to drink plenty of water before you get dehydrated, if you wait 'til you're really thristy, it's too late. I always carry a liter bottle of water with me and try to drink at least that amount during the day, you don't have to drink a lot at one time just make sure you drink it throughout the day.
Another thing I do every day when I wake up is to drink a 8oz glass of water before I have anything else, it's the best way to get your body started in the morning and if you drink coffee, as I do, it helps dilute it so your stomach doesn't feel so queasy.

The obvious thing to do first is drink water. Not Gatorade...it has sugar in it and can be harmful. Pedialyte is a children's over the counter product for dehydration, but adults can drink it, too.
Next, get in a lukewarm bathtub and stay there for a couple of hours.
Try not to exercise yourself, and if you don't get better, go to the ER (intravenous fluids might be needed).

To keep from becoming dehydrated again, keep a bottle of water with you whenever you are in the heat....sip it constantly. Good luck.
