In what state do you teach?
I know that there are websites but I wondered if you and I might be able to be penpal classes without using the penpal services.
I am also a third grade teacher in Dublin, Ohio. www.dublin.k12.oh.us for more info.
I usually have around twenty five students as well. I think 26 is my cap. Email me at lucybeagle2003@yahoo.com if you would like to talk about setting up a penpal program!

Sometimes you can just mail a letter from you (not the students) to a school-any school-requesting a specific grade to be pen pals with your class. The office will give it to a teacher who is interested. That's how I got my pen pal class one year. Our school recieved a letter and the principal sent an email asking any interested teachers to let her know. I did and she gave me the letter. I wrote back to that teacher and we started exchaning letters from students.

I would start with "Google", first. Type in: "student pen pals", for example. Next, I'd try a websearch for other schools, and then YOU write to the administration for permission. I'm sure they'd accept.

Sorry no but I really really don't think you should try to get pen pals off the internet.. because there might be freaks out there who pretend to be childeren so I think that's a bad idea. Just my opinion.
