my boyfriend and I do well for ourselves but have always wondered something. We enjoy driving through nearby towns (in CT) and looking at mansions, and lavish large homes. We often wish we could go knock on the door and say "excuse me, but what do you do for a living??" I thought this site gave me the chance to really ask! Anyone out there want to share how they do it? Were trying to make it happen in Real Estate Investing, but of course its different for everyone!

When the Government use to issue 30 year bonds, the rich would go and buy a 30 year bond for 50K then go to a bank and trade the bond for a million dollar home, even. The maturity on the bond would be 1.2 million in 30 years, but they get the house for only 50k, pretty smart!
Work smarter, not harder!
Most who own these houses are in the know, and are self employed, a select few are doctors, but not many.

Dear Samantha, I am not a multi million dollar babe yet. My boyfriend and I did the same thing. We drove around the private mansions and always wish to live in the super rich housing area.
I am lucky because my boyfriend is very supportive and we both are struggling for reaching the dream that we have. We are not striking for super rich status now but we want to be affordable in whatever we want.
The only things that we both can do right now is, carry on current job and at the same time work at home after working hours & during weekend. You can do it too. go for the internet business which requires less of your time and the one that will not make you feel headache with web designing, or which require IT knowledge. Second, choose the internet based company which offer you the opportunity and at the same time giving you the convenience to start the business. Third, choose the business, which does not require big money to start it.

DANG GOOD QUESTION! Best one I've seen in awhile.
I'm looking forward to see if you really get any honest answers. But if I had to take a stab, I bet quite a bit of it is inherited money. Not that I am implying that these people don't work for a living, but sometimes it takes money to make money! I don't begrudge the well-to-do, in fact I am glad they are there. It takes people like that to sign my paycheck!

some of my neighbors do, one is an orthapedic surgeon, one is a lawyer and the other builds homes. In other words, in most cases you work your butt off and have little time for family or friends until retirement, is it worth it? Or should you just be happy where you are? I choose the latter. There are many people in 3rd world countries who have next to nothing and are completly happy.

Most of those people are in DEBT up to their eyeballs. And its true....they have no time to enjoy their awesome homes. Who DOES get to enjoy them all day? The nannies and maids.
