every time I plant lobelia it looks good for the first month or so. It will have lots of flowers and fill out nicely. Then all of a sudden it will start to turn brownish red, it will quit flowering and fall over in hanging baskets and flower beds. I water about every day, have given it miracle grow. They are in 50/50 sun and shade. Help me, I love this flower-I cant get enough of it.

In Southern Calif, Lobelia lasts through the cool weather. Although nurseries carry it here all year round. When the weather gets hot it gets long and then kinda turns to straw. Sorry.. I know I love that beautiful blue color too :-) You don't say where you are, but plant more in the Autumn.
Good luck :-)

I think that lobelia likes shade for the most part especially if it is hot out. I use to have the same problem with lobelia in my window boxes and figured that it was because I let it dry out and then it could not recover. A few years back I found that they have a "drought resistant" variety. I only buy this plant now, it is more expensive but last through out the summer with no problem. I have it in planters on an open porch, a bright but shaded area. I live in NH and only know one local nursery that carries them. Good luck.

Here in the interior of Alaska lobelia thrives in the shade with just morning sun. Our average summer temp. is abiut 70 degrees.
I water daily unless it has rained. Pick dead blossoms off to encourage more blooms. I use a water soloble fertilzer once every 2 wks. Use something with this numbers---- 9-45-15 or
10-52-10. Don't over fertilize.

Lobelia prefer mostly sunny conditions, cool climates and moist soil. (if you live in a fairly hot summer climate, they should get some shade) You might want to consider watering daily. You can produce more blooms on this plant by removing flower spikes after blooming. Hope this helps.

My lobelia grows easily here in the Northwest. We are on the coast, and it is no warmer than 70 degrees most of the summer, so it must be the cool climate it loves. Plus it's pretty moist here, too.

lobelia likes morning sun and afternoon shade. ina pot you need to water daily in hot weather but in cooler times once a week is enough watering. go easy on the food your using on it that tends to make it thirsty and if it hasn't been watered enough it will die.

I was unaware it existed other than the wild variety. I have lots of it on my 22 acres. It is picked by some people, and sold for herb medicine. I suspect you are putting too much miracle grow on it.
