Honestly, the people who do that are posting questions for the wrong reasons. Instead of wanting genuine advice, they are looking for someone to agree with them so they can justify their actions.

Unfortunately, opinions are like a*sholes, everybody has one. The problem is that even though people do come here seeming to need help, alot of them are too young to realize what good advice is. Another point I'd like to make is that although they don't pick your answer, for instance, they might have what you told them embedded in their mind, and once they have to come to a decision, that thought may become more important than any other thoughts they might have had before asking the question. The good thing about advice is that even though people don't always seem to follow advice completely, they may use it as a tool in decision making, somewhat subconsciously.

Some people merely want an affirmation that their bad behavior is really justified. I answered a question from a woman who wanted to cheat on her husband with her boss. In her question, she stated that she didn't want anyone to "flame" her, and she wanted people to understand that her marriage was unhappy and her and her boss were hot for each other. This was supposed to lay the groundwork for a lot of positive answers where anybody reading the question would feel that she was justified in cheating because of the reasons she outlined. Of course, many people objected, myself included. The next day, she didn't actually post a question, but she made a defiant statement that she was going to cheat on her husband with her boss because all of us who "flamed" her don't really understand, and the feelings her and her boss felt for each other were so strong. That's an example of someone who didn't want to hear any negatives and didn't belong asking the question in the first place. If you don't want an answer, don't ask, because this forum is actually called "Answers". A child can understand that. All I have to say to her is thanks for the two points.

They really want to know if they look as stupid to you as they actually feel about themselves. They have low self esteem and think they can not do any better so they stay put. To them, any kind of life is better than no kind of life. They have no patience and do not want to wait for a better way to come along so they cling to what they already have no matter how rotten. Sometimes they have to hit the bottom before they will try to stand up for themselves.

Because they either don't really want to get out of a bad situation or they're posting stuff just to get a rise out of people like you. This is a chat board. Don't take it so personally!

Some people ask a question because its their way of telling us something they want us to know. Instead of telling us directly they use question to raise our awareness.
On the other hand you are right. If you ask the question prepare to accept the answer.
Cheers

They ask because they want to but now still lack the courage and confidence to do it but every time they do ask give them the advice most beneficial to them for one day esp.if they keep on asking(verbalizing need for help) one day they'll have the confidence or maybe just miserable enough to do it.
