sorry not an answer, was just checking out the first answer's website and that is so cool, wish I would have known about that in april when I was writing my kids game and needed some animated gifs :)

Use Adobe photoshop Imageready will be used to create the gif. ITS so powerfull. you can download from the adobe photoshop site.

download fireworks. its just joining multiple layers together then play it like a powerpoint which jumps up into new frame.
