They don't know the truth.
The truth is too hard to face.
The truth can hurt.

On the other hand, look at all the truths we face ever day. For instance: just to keep living we must face all the facts that keep us alive and not hurting ourselves or others; things like not trying to defy the laws of nature.

The truth of what. That's the question you should ask. Avoiding truth, the reason for it, is self evident. Why avoid this specific truth, that may be a mystery. And here we are in psychology.

But is avoidance the only hypothesis to test? No. Self estrangement, the alienation of self from self, self conditioning self to forget, habitual forgetting or memory failure, that is unconscious, has become unconscious.

People avoid truth for so many reasons

They fear it, they don't wanna get hurt, they don't want it to interfere with what they think or believe, they are scared of the changes that they cannot handle..

Come to think of it truth isn't scary we just have to live by it.. We are living it the only thing we have to do is accept it.. Truth and reality can be really scary and intimidating but that's the spice of life.. :)

The truth is generally ugly to most people. We prefer to live lives that reflect our beliefs and world views. We don't like to see the truth of things as they are.

(For example, there probably is no god, heaven, or hell. As such, most people become absolutely violent if you suggest such a thing.)

Those that do think that the truth is too scary and intimidating. They live in a wonderful place where almost nothing can go wrong.
