I'm 21 weeks pregnant, and I get cramping occasionally. I don't think it should be a consistent cramp, nor cramping that is really painful. If it is, I think you should call your doctor immediately. Here's an article from a book of mine on ligaments stretching that may interest you.
"I'm very worried about the pains I've been getting on the lower sides of my abdomen.
What you are probably feeling is the pregnancy equivalent of growing pains; the stretching of muscles and ligaments supporting the enlarging uterus. Most pregnant women experience these pains, which may be crampy or sharp and stabbing, and often are most noticeable when you are getting up from a bed of chair, or when yu cough. The pain may be brief, or may last for several hours. As long as it is occasional and not persistent - andis not accompanied by fever, chills, bleeding, increase vaginal discharge, faintness, or other unusual symptoms - there's no cause for concern. Getting off your feet and resting in a comfortable position should bring some relief. You should, of course, mention the pain to your practitioner at your next visit, so that he or she can reassure you that this is just another normal, if annoying, part of pregnancy."
I'm also going to include the link to a pregnancy forum that I think you will be very interested in joining. It's full of supportive women with boundless knowledge about these issues. I learnt so much there that I doubt I would have learnt otherwise.

You need to go to the doctor and you need to ask for an ultrasound and check for fibroids. Many women have fibroids through their pregnancy and it does not effect the baby, but you still must get it checked. This should not wait, you should make your appointment right away. You may just have some ligament stretching but that's different than a cramp.

It could be just the ligaments streatching....oh and does that hurt. But you should call the doctor to be sure----especially if this cramping is regular and timeable like a contraction---even if it is like every 20-30 minutes.....

it depends on yours and the babys health. I am 38 weeks and had bad cramping around that time. I ended up with gestational diabetes. Talk to your doctor it could be something or it could be nothing. all of our pregnancies are different.
