Nextel Cup fuel cell is 13.5 gallons (Busch is 22 gallons)... cars must qualify with a full fuel load...
figure 1 cell for qualifying, one for each practice session, pit window every 60-65 miles... so figure 6 stops during a race, two cells in practice, 1 for qualifying...

9 x 13.5 = 120 gallons theoretically...

a race with more cautions will lower consumption; long greens raise consumption... I'd think the actual number is more like 150 gallons...

Razrhead is right on the nose. the average Nextel cup car gets about 5-6 miles to the gallon. It's alot of gas and expensive to run these suckers.
