April 23, 1964 - Maple Leafs @ Red Wings - Game 6:
Nearing end of 3rd period - game tied @ 3 - BOBBY BAUN, known for his muscle rather than his stick-handling - is being carted off the ice on a stretcher after taking a shot to the ANKLE- finished surely.
Not so, Baun returns to the ice for overtime - and promptly scores the 4th and winning goal for Toronto only 2:43 into overtime - only to later realize the searing pain in his foot was a fractured ankle.
Detroit never fully recovered and, IN GAME 7, suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss.
Cheers!

the answer to this question is simple...no one has played in the final of the Stanley cup with a broken leg....and if they did it would hurt the team more by him playing...

I answered this question a few days ago but it was Bobby Baun.
It was more like a hairline crack in his ankle and they did kind of make a big deal out of it.
