The normal way is to be born into a royal family. However, over the last few decades. Depending on the nation you can purchase a title. However, there is a catch...and that is the title is not passed down to your children.

The Queen of England, does from time to time. Bring fresh blood into the royal stable. This is in the form of appointments for lifelong accomplishments. For example: Sir. Elton John. or even Sir. Ronald Reagan.

overtake and destroy a government of one or more countries then place your self as dictator of it with your descendants the named heirs then show favoritism towards family members when dishing the wealth and power. Look at napoleon as a example.
You can also just buy title (actual businesses dedicated to it) or do something good enough that royalty gives you a raised status or title.

In ancient times, you did it by becoming a war hero. You were the fiercest and bravest in battle. If you look at most rulers of the ancient world, you'll see that they challenged the monarch who was the present ruler,or the group of leaders who wanted to choose someone to rule. He just took matters into his own hands and killed anyone who would be a threat (that included the wives and kids of their enemies, not to mention servants ,guards, and their combined families)down the road.
In modern times, countries who have a monarch will award honarary titles of nobility to people who performed an act of courage or service that would benefit the people of that nation or all nations.Oh by the way,Americans who receive an honarary title may not use it here in this country.

That depends. Either you're born into a royal family, you marry into one, or (if it was, like, 800 years ago) you conquer people then call yourself supreme ruler.

my mother had two aunts that researched their family tree and discovered they had a relative that was the king of Welsh. if i remember right he was king several generations back. would that make me royalty, probably not. but it sure is interesting. you could due a great deed and be knighted. that might make you royalty.
