I used to wonder the same thing. Then I talked about this issue with some friends and we all concluded that we react to what we "know" or what is a part of our lives and upbringing. Since we grew up around schooling, freedom and speech and manicured lawns, it's natural that "we" (meaning Americans and Europeans) would make a fuss in the event of disaster or crisis. But if you grow up around that and that is all that you know, and it is as much a part of your life as a child as our bicycles and ice cream cones were to us, it would not be AS new of an experience, and therefore would not create such a reaction. I must say for the record, however, that I think they do make a fuss, but in their own way. Their cultural rituals allow them to mourn differently and to handle situations differently. It's just the way of the world that different cultures handle things in different ways - based on upbringing and cultural values both. Hope this helps.

I thought I was the only one who thought the same way you did. I don't really care about europe, I care about america and I do give those starving children in different countries a second thought. I just wish other people would do that, and stop saying, "Thats so sad, but..I'm not going to help". Those thousands of people that face hardships every day, are just as qualified to say they're in a national crisis as any other person out their that is facing a crisis at this very moment (in america or otherwise). I just wish people had more compassionate, and would stop looking through a single eyehole of the world's door.

Americans make such a fuss because they can. We are one of the most powerful countries and we think that everything can and will evolve around us. I think if we sent all the celebrities to Iraq they would not make it for a day.
We just don't care. We want all the countries to be like us and when they aren't or start wars the Presidents always send our troops in to change their government to imitate ours. It's really ridiculous.
Everyone now a days is so power hungry and worried about money we don't leave time for much else and we're so ready to complain about how bad our life is, even billionaires complain how bad their life is! Nothing is ever going to be good enough for some people. We just have to accept that.
It's very sad. :'(

I wonder the same thing sometimes. The world is lucky that we have people who care enough to go help.
Am I alone when I say that people wont help others because they see people as governmnets, not as equals?
I think its our(all people, in and outside the US) duty to help out all of the billions of people who live in squalor. it isnt that hard. we spend 12 trillion dollars a year on ourselves, why not use a little for some good?

Most of the big media is run by the money from US or Euro. companies. And the people in these countries have the extra $ to buy TVs and radios so the media sells to them more often.
No, it's not fair. But money runs the world.

Bcoz its all due to communication resources.
U know there is a war in Iran only if some new reader says it.
And major prt of news papers and new channels are European,American companies, and they highlight events in respective countries.

Beautiful question. Beautiful responses, people. Attitudes are changing, things are getting better. It's a beautiful world. Having read this question I have just this second donated £10.00 to Water Aid and I feel much happier within myself for having done so. You probably would too. Try it x

It is a racial thing. The majority of Americans and Europeans are "white". White folks consider themselves morally superior to lesser races. Other races just don't count as much in our lexicon.
