You definitely cannot copyright for free & I'm pretty sure publishing for free is going to be difficult, unless, of course, you start a blog or submit your work to free-for-all sites.

Self-publishing could be a good option. Do a search online for "self publishing" & sites will pop up.

Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* The Self-Publishing Manual: How to Write, Print, and Sell Your Own Book, 14th Edition by Dan Poynter
* Complete Guide to Self Publishing: Everything You Need to Know to Write, Publish, Promote, and Sell Your Own Book (Self-Publishing 4th Edition) by Tom Ross
* A Basic Guide to Writing, Selling, and Promoting Children's Books : Plus Information about Self-publishing by Betsy B. Lee

There are lots of free informational resources out there as well. Check the source box for links to articles.

For copyrights, go to the last link in the source box for Literary Works. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Despite what others state, a "poor man's" copyright is NOT the same as registering it. Here's what the US Copyright Office has to say:

"The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a 'poor man’s copyright.' There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration."

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Works are automatically invested with a copyright at the time of their creation.
However, one must register your copyright with the United States Copyright Office before one is legally permitted to bring a lawsuit to enforce your copyright and this registration requires a fee.

All of the details about copyright from the United States Copyright Office may be found here:

You cannot get a copyright for "free". There is a fee charged by the Library of Congress. No way around that one, and that's the only legitimate copyright. Guess you can't slum your ENTIRE life away.

Go to GP Putman and sons. They will publish it. Can't guarantee any results though. They are located in NYC.
