I'm going to the beach this weekend and I'd like to go swimming while I'm out there. It's going to be too hot for me to stay where I live on Saturday and it'll still be pretty warm at the beach and I really just feel like cooling off in the surf but I'm afraid that something like the salt in the water or something will hurt my baby. I'm 16 weeks pregnant right now so ... I don't know if that makes any difference or anything. Let me know plz!

how do you think the salt in the water will hurt the baby? It will not go through to the baby, just don't drink it, and watch out for the surf, don't get beaten up with it.
I used to live by the ocean in Hawaii, and the women over there went swimming all the time while preggers.

while living in hawaii, i met a woman who had her baby in the ocean. she showed me pictures of her swimming with a pod of dolphins while in labor. it was amazing, she said they swam underneath her and pushed her to the surface. apparently, when a dolphin goes into labor, the others in her pod help keep her at the surface so she can breathe during contractions. this isnt the only person i met who has done this either. in other countries, including sweden, and russia, women have their babys in the water all the time. water births are wonderful, and its supposed to be kinder to the baby to have it in water with a bit of salt in it since amniotic fluid has a high salt content. in short, as long as the water is relatively clean, and you feel good enough to swim, i dont think it should be any problem. do some research on water births, when i was in labor i took a hot bath and was amazed at how much it did for my contractions. i felt so good i almost didnt make it to the hospital in time! we got there at 5:40 and she was out and born at 5:45. (with my first i went to the hospital immediately and ended up having an epidural.) also, after two children, my best advice for labor is stay at home as long as possible. studies have shown that women who stay at home til late labor have fewer interventions and c-sections than women who go to the hospital during early labor. the death rate was not shown to be any higher. besides, labor is hard work, and you dont want to go to the hospital where theyll starve you til an hour or two after you have your baby.

dont think it could cause any harm unless you're drinking buckets of salt water or something. if it makes you feel any better i went to FLA on vacation when i was pregnant with my daughter..about 12 weeks along and swam in the ocean every day and she was fine...

I would think it would be alright. I think you take a bigger risk driving a car than wading in the ocean. Just my opinion though.
