Is this a newly installed DVD recorder, or have you installed any other new hardware. Is the power getting to the drive, does the tray move out & in? Are you trying to force the computer to recognize it as a certain drive letter, and use a removable device (flash drive, external hard drive, digital camera, etc.) that is allready assigned the drive letter? Have you downloaded and installed the latest driver? Is it an internal or external drive? so many pieces of unknown information... Try checking all that stuff, and if still not working, drop me an e-mail at technical_13@yahoo.com good luck.

Your PC or your DVD writer software? Or do you have DVD burner software?
Right click on My Computer, select properties, Hardware, Device manager. Check her to see if the PC is seeing your drive. PnP should be able to detect any drive you install. There are no drivers for them for the PC.
The software that comes with the DVD burner should be able to see it. If you are using some other package, you will need to get an update for it to see the new dive.

check the device manager to see if the driver needs updating,

right click my computer, select properties, select hardware, select device manager button

see if your cd/dvd rom drive has a yellow or red mark next to it. either way you can update the driver, also, run the software the came with the drive if you haven't already, that will install the proper driver for you.

Did you just install this drive? you may need to adjust jumper settings for master/slave or cable select options for your drive to be recognized in the bios.
