Through the internet, I've recently begun hearing quite a bit about the television series from the early 90s called Twin Peaks, which was created by the master surrealist filmmaker David Lynch. I love Lynch's work, the idea (a surreal soap opera and murder mystery) sounds fascinating, and many reviews that I have read have claimed that this is "art combined with television," which is really what I look for in a TV series.
However, this was before my time so I've never seen it, and due to the unconventional nature of the show and also some legal issues, buying all of the two seasons and the pilot can be difficult and quite expensive. I am wondering if it is worth it. Does anybody have some insight into the matter?

To Movie Buff: Thanks for the site that you posted. According to them, Paramount almost certainly is planning to release a box set of the second season of Twin Peaks.

It's definitely worth it, especially if you're a David Lynch fan.
I don't promote anything... illegal... or anything.. *ahem*
So, DON'T download the entire first season via bittorrent at torrentspy.com. And DON'T make sure to also download the pilot - making sure to get the original version (NOT the movie Fire Walk With Me).
Season 2 is a lot harder to come by, as they never released it on DVD - you have to actually go out and buy the VHS, or download a very low quality version somewhere online.
It's a great show, and an example of the genius of Lynch - if you're into shows that are more artistically done, and a little bit quirky, then this is a must-have. Must-see. Must-something or other.

Hello,Two of the best series on television were "Twin Peaks" And "China Beach." There is a DVD Twin Peaks for sale on Ebay right now -The First Season 2001-for $12.00 and the bidding has about 12 hours to go on the auction, should you wish to buy it. When Twin Peaks was shown on television, no one knew what was going on, more or less like "Lost" today. The show was a haunting journey at the time.Bravo channel played all the Twin Peaks a few years ago.
The characters and the scenery and the music created one of those very few "can't wait for the show to begin" moments. The ending makes absolutely no sense but it was fascinating to see the little man with Kyle MacLachlan in the sitting standing wondering scenes. If you like the extraordinary in life, Twin Peaks is rthe show to watch.

I have also heard a lot of good comments about the show, but since I didn't live in the US at the time, I never watched it on TV. Throughout the years, I spent a lot of time on the web searching for ways to get a hold of copies of the show. As you probably already know, Season 1 of the show was released on DVD, sans the pilot.
From TVShowsonDVD.com, I think there will be plans to release Season 2 properly in 2007, but don't know if they'll re-release Season 1 with the pilot.

Just last week on the Sci-Fi Channel in TV saw the Pilot to Twin Peaks and thoroughly enjoyed it for love these kinda of movies. Also remembering seeing some of Twin Peaks Series and it was just the right combination of weird, suspense and good looking actors to make you eagerly anticipate seeing the next one. Whether or not you should make the purchase I would think depends on how badly you want it and how fervent of a collector you are.You may buy 1first-as you can afford, but I'd definitely advise you to purchase the pilot for thats the story of the series. If you're a collector and as into his work as you say then how can you not for its definitely keep you on the edge of your seat suspense and i remember several times when watching the series checking to make sure all doors secure esp.when the guy pssessing Laura's father would appear. Enjoy

Yes! I watched the show while it was on and it was far and away my favorite show for a long time. Also, I recommend the movie version, "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me." It came out after the series as a prequel. It should be available for rental at your local video joint. Both the movie and the series were classic David Lynch: quirky, twisty and surreal. If there is any way you can get your hands on the series, grab it!

I loved Twin Peaks, I never missed an episode when it was on. If you are interested in buying them, I know that eBay has the complete series for sale from different people. It would be well worth investing in it. David Lynch in my opinion is one of the most under rated producer/directors out there!

First sixteen episodes of twin Peaks have been approximately as good as television has ever been....truthfully till we detect out who and why she grew to become into killed. (Leland Palmer) lost lacks the originality of twin Peaks, so being greater mundane, it fairly is probably to pass on for lots longer, and it has. lost is okay, yet not something in simple terms specific twin Peaks lite

If you are a Lynch fan then it is well worth it. In the UK it was quite a cult hit back then. The film 'Fire walk with me' was the film he made to, supposedly, ti up the loose ends when the show was canceled. If you can get a hold of the box sets, you should; They are worth it for the extras alone....good luck.
