The Kama Sutra is attributed to the Indian philosopher Mallanaga VÄtsyÄyana. According to some sources, the author was actually a celibate scholar. The Kama Sutra was originally intended as something of an instructional text, since in sanscrit "sutra" or "sutram" refers to technical writing, more or less, but it was not intended to be read the way that westerners tend to read it. Yes, it's full of wonderful descriptions of sexual activities that sometimes require the assistance of other people to...um...support the participants or to hold them in position, but the original drive of the text seems more geared toward a form of spiritual and meditative "love making" rather than "gettin' yo groove on," as the whole element of love-making has more philosophical and spiritual ramifications than a mere roll in the bedsilks.

The Karma Surta is a book on meditative poses originally written for the crown princes of India. If you don't know already, an orgasm can lend you into a heightened relaxed state of mind. The priests believed that in order to attain certain poses, you needed to meditate to achieve a certain amount of flexibility. The libido added heightened awareness. I'm not sure about the original author, but, I doubt that there was only one.

The Kama Sutra is from India, and I'm not sure any one person has credit for writing it. It's supposed to contain the most tried-and-true and amazing sexual positions ever.

The Kama Sutra is Hindu. Vatsyayana is the author. It was written because of the belief, (and I am putting this in my own words), that everything is interconnected - words, thoughts, actions - and to reach the height of pleasure in one act reflects to all actions.
Aside from that, wouldn't you rather have a lover who knew what they were doing and was truly skilled rather than inept fumblings in the dark?

India
It is kama = lust
Sutra = Method, formula
The book was written by Vatsyayana in around 4- 6 th century bc. to guide people to the highest level of sexual pleasures. As was the knowledge known to the kings of the time.
So were the other disciplines yoga, mantras, yantras, tantras, geeta (the discipline of political life)...
They all bring well being to the people who practice them.
ps. Karma is your deeds....

It's the Kama Sutra and it's from India. I don't know who wrote it, but they wrote it for religious purposes.
