the greatest weakness is the inability for the 'leadership' of the country (I mean Congress also) to make realistic goals. During these election seasons, the only goals they have are to make themselves look good for reelection, rather doing what's in the country's and military's best interest. Bush is doing a great job in keeping this military on the right path, unfortunately, those under him are too afraid to follow him for fear of losing their positions.

Their greatest potential weakness is what lots of other people have noted--being led into unwinnable conflicts by leaders who do not understand war or what militaries are for. This is not new. For reference see Vietnam. See the Korean War. See Somalia.

War should not be a political tool--and that isn't a moral assessment. Wars are things to be fought and won decisively. A mission that does not have concrete aims and ends is doomed to fail, regardless of how strong the military force is. Desert Storm was effective because it had a clearly defined military objective--kill or chase the Iraqi military out of Kuwait. Similarly the U.S. military was incredibly successful at smashing Iraq's defenses this time around. But the aftermath left an unwinable situation for the military--attempting to be a "friendly" occupying force for an indeterminate time in territory where the enemy cannot be effectively identified and engaged, with no concrete milestones that would indicate victory has been achieved or that it's time to withdraw. The only thing that defines that time to withdraw--the only "criteria" for the end of the mission--is when GW or one of his successors decide it's over.

One military weakness would be the fact that everything is based on computers; imagine a virus affecting much of the system during a major battle (reminds me of "Independence Day"). In the end, belief that we are the strongest and that therefore we can attack anyone is our greatest weakness. Look at history: Many powerful nations had the most powerful military of their time, yet all have collapsed: the Babylonians, Carthage (Hannibal) , Persia, Greece, Rome, Egypt, Ancient China, the Mongolians, the Arabs, The Barbarians, The British Empire, etc....Why??? Because the only way to remain the strongest is by avoiding to make enemies and compromising; or even better, understanding other cultures and respecting them. All nations that have pursued aggressive policies of domination have and are destined to succumb.

President Bush, Congress, the silent citizens who do nothing to stand up to the atrocities inflicted upon this country by those in command. They are wearing our men and women thin. The troops are tired and there are not enough replacements for them to keep up at this rate. With growing violence around the world, and the likely event more of our troops will be deployed, our homeland will be vulnerable. And then the draft, and then more young people will die. Which will include many young people that utilize myspace for a place to play.

For an interesting video check out "A Soldier's Heart" a PBS Frontline edition which also shows the effects of PTSD and the lack of care our service men and women receive on active duty and after.

It depends, naturally we're all around great, but if we were to face a nation such as China? Our weakness would be man power, to fix it we have United Nations, or perhaps could reinduce the draft.

I noticed this was a question that Bush-haters could come and rant, so I wanted to be serious. Stop disrespecting my president.

Political infighting. A Self-centered media more interested in newspaper sales than national security.

the US Military has one major weakness and its something they have very little control over
The constant effort made by five and dime politicians to oversee
anything and everything they do.

And also the biased scrutiny of our PC media

Between those two groups patriotism is a bad word.

I assume your question does not mean the Commander and Chief because he's got my vote for the greatest weakness!
