Don;t you hate that? I think it's the metal oxidizing onto the pad (like bronze/copper does) you can get replacements at any glasses store, I get them for free once in a while from a sunglass hut.

(edit) wow, looks like I guessed right!

This happens because the oils from your skin eat at the metal where the nosepads connect to the frame. Also, dirt and stuff that get on your face collect on the nose pads. It is a combination.

The nost pads on your glasses are in contract with your skin, oil sweat and other things are on your skin. These then get transfured onto your nose pads. As the oil and sweat from your skin contain protiens and other nutriets, germs and other things will start to grow in the areas that are not cleaned.

I wonder the same thing. My nose pads do that. I just clean it off with a q-tip or sumthin. But that is a good question.

skin oil gets on the edges and crevices where dirt and dust stick to it. it turns green bcause of the chemical reaction betrween the oil and metal as well as algae or bacterial growth. clean them using a fine soft brush with soap and water, or use q-tips to remove the stained material. and yes, it's quite common for anyone who wears glasses for the greenish gunk to show up. it may also show up where metal a plastic meet on the ear pieces, especially for those wearing metal frames,

The oils on your nose and such (ie sweat) react with the nosepad. It happens to me to every single pair of glasses I've ever worn.

Just be sure to clean it every now and then.
