My brother and good friend have been living together for 25 years. They are moving to a new condo with washers and dryers already there. They asked me if i want to buy theirs that are 10 years old. I asked them how much and they said offer me a price and I said $100.00. They said they would rather throw them away. They said they wanted $750.00 for both. I think that is really expensive, am I wrong?

They are nuts. The average American replaces their washer every 7 years. (I just read this on a website as I was researching a new w/d for myself.)

Someone said the pair is running on borrowed time. That is exactly the truth. Those puppies aren't going to last but a couple of years...if that long.

There is no way they are worth anywhere close to $750. $100 is a generous offer.

By the way...in my humble opinion, your brother is a jerk. Were you my sibling, I'd give you the pair for free. If he can afford to buy a new condo, I cannot imagine that a 10 year-old washer dryer should mean that much to him.

Even though portable washers and dryers cost more than full sized machines 10 year old machines of any size or style are not worth $750.00. I don't think that they paid much more for them brand new. $150.00 for both would be too much. Let them try to get their asking price on E-bay. I think that was not a brotherly like remark to say they would rather throw them away than sell them for $100.00.

They should be paying you to take a 10 year old washer and dryer off their hands.

Try looking in the Sunday paper this weekend. Cheap.

Show them the for sale ads for under used household items so that your brother and his friends get some real data to go by.

You can go to Sears.com and see a brand new full size washer for $299; the dryer is $379.

A brand new stackable set there is $799.

No you're not wrong. I believe you offered them a VERY fair price, and they are crazy to think they can get new price out of something 10 years old. No, no, no, no , no. If you buy the set from them for $750.00, I have "some land" to sell you in Florida. LOL

I think that's too expensive considering that the guarantee is valid only for one or two years depending on the maker.

You offered too much. Those appliances are living on borrowed time.
They should pay you to haul them off.
