Because Friday proceeded the beginning of the Sabbath for many people...signaling the end of the work week...and represented a day of preparation. Almost everything has a root in more ancient times. Good Friday represents the friday Christ died on the cross....and proceeds the Sunday He arose....known as Easter Sunday.

Friday is a day in the week, a great day for most because it's the end of the work week, but it's still just a day nonetheless.
Good Friday is a holiday celebrated by Christians. It represents all that Jesus has done, specifically for his sacrificial death for one's sins to be forgiven.
I think the importance of each of these "Friday's" is different for all.

Good Friday is when Jesus died and Easter is when he was raised from the dead, that is why many people think it's important. However, most people don't get off work for it and it isn't a government holiday.

Friday means nothing. You can't relate the name of the day to religion.
