To put things in such a simple dichotomy is frivolous. Things are not that black and white, and as such can be both at the same time. It's like asking if light is a particle or a wave, when it's both at the same time. Overall, I think that the actions that the government takes are beneficial and that most people in the government try to improve our lives, but on the flipside I think that a lot of senators and representatives only really care about being reelected and as such they will pander to whoever gives them the most money or the most votes. This is why so many people side with the elderly on issues, because they are willing to vote, and the younger people, who might have a different yet equally valid point to make, are largely ignored.

I don't know of a better working government today than the US, of course I haven't really looked at other ones either. I would say that almost any government is better than no government though. No government means people do whatever they can get away with and there quickly becomes a power struggle for leadership which is not often resolved by anything better than a dictatorship.

Thats an invalid question. Any government can neither be good or bad. Just as any part of any government can neither be good or bad. Terms like that just over simplify the issues.

I will make an assumption that you mean the govt. of the U.S.
The govt. is superior to any other. The problem is that some members of the govt. are less than ethical. No one can say that there is a specific ruling or mandate or action because there are always some who agree with it, even if it isn't what is best for the masses. Examples: abortion, Iraq, taxes.

Some politicians are corrupt and some are not, therefore the government is both good and bad but mostly good because America is great.

The government is amoral, neither good nor bad. It is the politicians and other individuals that are either corrupt or not.
