the only people that say science and religion do not work together are the closed minded on both sides.
as a christian and an amateur scientist, i have investigated the events of the bible, the societies, civilizations and persons.
from an archeological point of view, there is strong evidence of the very civilizations that are mentioned in the bible and they have ben "dated" to within the time of the biblical history.
as for the persons in the bible, there are numerous accounts of these people and their travels, in historical documents other than the bible.
even Jesus Himself is mentioned in many of these documents. He is mentioned as a rabi and teacher (rabi) and prophet of God. there is even the account of His claiming to be the Son of God.
what is not in the historical documents, even the bible, is proof positive of the divinity of Christ, Jesus and God. some things have to be taken on faith.
i truly believe that to the dismay of many of my christian friends, that we will find that the big bang theory is true.....but to the dismay of my atheist friends, we will find that God pushed the button to initiate it. lol
as for not getting along about this, only the closed minded will not welcome discussion, and sometimes arguments, of differing views. if we dont welcome these, we will never grow within our faith and our scietific knowlege.

If God acts through naturalistic means then there is no way to distinguish a supernatural creator from nature. This may be the case, but there is no way to prove it.
The problem with religion is that when confronted with an unknown religion says, "God Did It." You must leave it at that. There is no further need to ask questions. How did the Big Bang occur? God Did It. What started evolution? God. When we stop at that answer we lose so much. If we had stopped at that we would still be living in the Dark Ages where disease was believed to be caused by demons and the only cure exorcism or regular church going.
Also, to some religions your saying that God acted through evolution would be considered nonsense. See Kent Hovind, and other fundamentalists.
Religion can pose questions science can answer, but religion isn't interested in proof, only faith. Religion does not want you to ask questions, only to believe what is told you by doctrine.
This is why science and religion are incompatible. If something has to give, it is religion. When science disproves something like faith healing, then religion gives. Religion is consigned to the gaps in theory. Sagan's "God of the Gaps" if you will.
God is fine for some who need answers to things science can't yet answer, but religion stifles free inquiry and probably always will.

I agree with most of the comments so far. Science and religion generally are not against each other. Its only those extreme cases that science and religion actually clash. Hey, the Pope (the last one) said the big bang theory worked well and that evolution was viable within religious doctrine.
And old timey scientists were also usually priests or clerics of some kind. I wouldn't say there was a science versus religion climate there.
If you wanted to blame somebody, I would blame the church. They always persecute ideas that challenge their beliefs. Thats just how people react to that situation. Hopefully soon, people will evolve socially enough to integrate science and religion on their own terms, which many people already do.

Most scientists believe that science is distinct and is Fact, where as religion is faith/spirituality, something which people believe in and Cannot be proven. (This is where the "hate" stems).
Science is full of flaws and still cannot explain such things as simple as what goes on in human cells, let alone what is controlling the universe!
One example of what I believe is a scientific flaw:
-The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed.
-The flaw: how in the world is a miniscule proton supposed to be the result of our universe and all the energy within it, if energy was not created from it (leaving out any divine intervention). Moreover, how can dark energy 10 trillion trillion trillion years after the big bang (Degenerate Era) be described as what will be the cause of the end of the Earth and other cellestial bodies as we know it, without the energy within them being destroyed/consumed?
Islam is a religion which promotes peace and is practiced primarily from the teachings of the Quran. (It may seem otherwise on the media, because of deviants who stray away from the teachings of Islam and try to fulfill their political/selfish desires). The Quran is the Holy Book that is believed to be the message of God, sent to the Prophet Muhammed (sallalloho alaihe wa-aalay wasallam=peace be upon him) and is believed to be the last prophet (after other prophets like Eesa Alaihi wa sallam->Jesus peace onto him and Musa Alaihi wa sallam-> Moses peace onto him). From the Quran, which has never been changed from its transcending 1400 years ago, has explanations for things that occur scientifically on Earth, MORE SPECIFICALLY alludes to the big bang theory!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please visit this website and read the comments on the bottom of the slide and on the next slide (actually why not try all the slides if you have patience and want to learn something you will not regret). Some scientists cannot deny there is something CERTAINLY unique here:

And this website, which provides more examples of the miracles of the Quran:
http://the-haqq.spaces.msn.com/
I hope I have been clear enough, please visit these sites and look through them carefully since they have very good links such as http://www.paltalk.com/ ...another great place to ask a question like yours, that is if you go to the right discussion room - I have given you the hint already...
Good luck!

our religion is not a mortal enemy of science,, uhmm,, many people thinks that the religion disagree with science(maybe their religion are false)...
the bible agrees with science(ofcourse only the facts that has been proven)...
this may take some of your time,, but if you are really interested,, please bear with me,,
there are instances that bible revealed earlier FACTS than the Scientist.
for example:
For centuries, men believed that the earth was flat. The Bible asserts otherwise. People in the 15th century feared sailing because they thought they would fall at the edge of the flat earth. Yet the Bible revealed the truth more than 1,000 years before man discovered it for himself.
It took a long time for science to discover what was recorded in the Bible more than 2,500 years ago. Copernicus invented the first globe in 1475 to demonstrate that the earth is a sphere. Galileo constructed the first astronomical telescope to study the sky. Columbus believed the earth was sphere with his voyage to North America in 1492. Finally, Magellan and his men sailed around the earth and proved it to be spherical in shape. These major events did not occur until the 15th century.
The fact of a spherical earth was clearly proclaimed in the Bible by the prophet Isaiah nearly twenty-eight centuries ago. In chapter 40 verse 22 of the book of Isaiah we read:
“It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” (KJV)
When Isaiah wrote this verse, he used the Hebrew word “khug” to describe the shape of the earth. Although this word is commonly translated into the English word “circle,” the literal meaning of this word is “a sphere.”
*****
The Bible is often described as a book that includes many ideas that are scientifically inaccurate. Many people have misinterpreted the Bible in such a way as to make it seem to be at odds with the reality of our world. For example, the Roman Catholic Church promoted geocentrism (the idea that the earth is the center of the universe) for many years. This concept is not found in the Bible, but stems from the idea that since humans are the center of God's attention, that the place where they live must be the center of God's universe. This is neither a logical nor biblical inference because the Bible said that the heavens control the earth and not the other way around (the heavens "fix their rule over the earth,"). Scientists (Nicholas Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei) believe too that the earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around which the Catholic religion asserted. In fact, Isaac Newton, in his famous scientific work, Principia, stated, "The most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion on an intelligent and powerful Being."
Of course, the Bible was not written as a work of science nor was its purpose to describe the workings of the physical world. However, when the Bible describes the physical world, it is accurate. The purpose of this article is to illustrate some of the examples of scientific principles described in the Bible hundreds to thousands of years before they were proved to be true by science.
Scientific Principle
Cosmology/Astronomy
• Time had a beginning (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 1:2, 1 Corinthians 2:7)
• The universe had a beginning (Genesis 1:1, 2:4, Isaiah 42:5, etc.)
• The universe was created from the invisible (Hebrews 11:3)
• The dimensions of the universe were created (Romans 8:38-39)
• Creation of matter and energy has ended in the universe (refutes steady-state theory) (Genesis 2:3-4)
• The universe is winding down and will "wear out" (Psalms 102:25-27)
• Describes the correct order of creation (Genesis 1) (see Day-Age Genesis One Interpretation)
• Number of stars exceeds a billion (Genesis 22:17, Jeremiah 33:22)
• Every star is different (1 Corinthians 15:41)
• Pleiades and Orion as gravitationally bound star groups (Job 38:31)
• Light is in motion (Job 38:19-20)
• The earth is controlled by the heavens (Job 38:33)
• Earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:2213 Job 26:10)
• At any time, there is day and night on the Earth (Luke 17:34-35)
• Earth is suspended in space (Job 26:7)
Earth Sciences
• Earth began as a waterworld. Formation of continents by tectonic activity described (Genesis 1:2-9, Psalms 104:6-9, Proverbs 3:19, Proverbs 8:27-29, Job 38:4-8, 2 Peter 3:5)
• Water cycle described (Ecclesiastes 1:7; Isaiah 55:10, Job 36:27-28)
• Valleys exist on the bottom of the sea (2 Samuel 22:16)
• Vents exist on the bottom of the sea (Job 38:16)
• Ocean currents in the sea (Psalms 8:8)
• Air has weight (Job 28:25)
• Winds blow in circular paths (Ecclesiastes 1:6)
Biology
• The chemical nature of human life (Genesis 2:7, 3:19)
• Life of creatures are in the blood (Leviticus 17:11)
• The nature of infectious diseases (Leviticus 13:46)
• Importance of sanitation to health (Numbers 19, Deuteronomy 23:12-13, Leviticus 7-9)

Scientists are currently the only people who when proven wrong by fact, will admit they were wrong and change their opinion permanently. When the facts are there, they conform to them and toss their theories aside. Religion tends to be on the other side. No matter how many facts or how much logic you send their way, they remain stubborn in their beliefs. They say that these facts are god testing their faith and that you are wrong and they are right. They can't coexist because religion is tunnel-visioned

Think of it this way
Just because both are lines, doesn't mean Two parallel lines can meet.
Same with science and religion
Though they could meet, if religionists and scientists unanimously agreed on some common goal
So in the end, it's not science and religion which are at odds, but the people practicing them.

The way I see it is this. Men are always looking for ways to explain what happens around them. So at the beginnig they used what is called animism. In other words they believed that spirits caused the changes to their surroundings. Later animism evolved to religions. Gods were created to find meaning to all events around us. But the problem with religion is that you need to have faith. In the other hand science is factual. Science is a very young tool to man compared to our existence, but it is proving to be the be the best to satisfy our curiosity.
