Why cant religion and science work in co-operation, why do they have to be such mortal enemys? my personal thoughts are that they both drive to seek the same goal. science in a form of numerals and equations, and religion in flesh and faith. science seeks out answers to the world. religion also seeks these same answers, but in a different format. Take evolution for example, science says darwin, religion says god just poofed us to fit to our current state. why couldnt god have created us and then tweaked us over time using evolution??? it seems logical to me. he saw improvements to be needed, he improved. and the creation of the universe, science has many theorys but the biggest common agreed one is the big bang theory. religion says it was just wisked here all of a sudden. i dont understand why god could not have used the big bang method to create the universe? it has to always be such utter hate between the two when in fact they both drive the same questions.1 has equations, one faith

"Why cant religion and science work in co-operation"?

They do, if you have an open mind. It's only the fanatical zealots who have a problem reconciling science and religion. The people with fully functional brains don't see a problem. You sound like you understand pretty well what I mean. Most people are too brainwashed one way or the other to understand this though...They interpret portions of the Bible literally that were meant to be taken figuratively.

equations. OK, do the math. evolution says from zoo to goo to you. It "just happened". So everything that grows on this earth. People, plants, animals, insects and fish, just happened. OK, so what are the chances? And then. what are the chances of it happening male and female, and in such a way, that they could "reproduce". Yes, reproduce, take two similar animals and guess what, you get the same kind of animal. Science already proves this, so how can it turn around and say "evolution"? OK. So you got the answer yet? And while you're at it. Think about this. Why, would a God that could create anything, ever need evolution. And check this tid bit out. Caterpillar to butterfly / evolution? Naw, they call it metamorphosis.

Dear jps,

I don't think that religion and science drive to seek the same goal.
Not at least at it has been set....

In humanity's history there were some persons who gave a teaching for the spiritual development of the human being.
Krisna, Rama, Orpheus, Pythagoras, Moses, Budha, Aton, Jesus, Mohamad, Lao tse..... just to name some of them.

Other people took the teaching and they developed it into religion and system of exploitation of the masses.
There are many interests in this pathway with big big bucks.
In all the religions there is no any proof.
but in all religions there is an induction of fear and introduction of anticipation of a "Better life after death" and are against of anything that could make them loose money.
I don't think that it is necessary to tell you historical events.
U are person who can search your own way in history and find all the points.
ie.crusaders, spanish inquisision, conquistadores, etc etc

SCIENCE: yes it tries to get the "proof" of everythving.
There are "natural laws" and tries to interpret them and to define them. doesn't relay in "blind faith"

If you ignore the law of Newton and go over the cliff you are gonna be killed.

Science operates on the basis that any scientific theory, law, etc. can be proven to be wrong. Nothing is given as an "absolute" which seems to be the case with most religions.

Religion is a belief and science is a proof. Some matters cannot be proved but still could be understood through religion

It is only the narrow minded (both religious and scientific) that think they can't or don't coexist.

Science is about the things that can be seen and documented. Religion is about intangible things such as faith, love, dreams, etc.

b_bananaman I think you're right. You can "Believe in the proof but you can't proof what you Believe"
Science can prove things but can't prove Religion
In this case Belief means Religion and science.
