I AGREE.IT SHOULD BE CALLED FOOTBALL.IN AMERICAN FOOTBALL YOU USE YOUR HAND WHICH MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL!!!IN IN REAL FOOTBALL ONLY THE GOALKEEPER USES THE HAND!!!!I THINK THAT U.S.A WANTS TO BE DIFERENT FROM ENGLAND.FOR EXAMPLE OFFSIDES.MANOUT WAS RIGHT!!!!!!NOT OFFSIDE!SO AMERICA WAS WRONG ON THAT ONE THING!

I hate people going on about how soccer is called football. The word soccer was actually invented by the English, and they used to use the word soccer instead of the word football.

US football began in the late 1870s and there was no passing, just running, punting, and kicking field goals. That is why we call it football, much like the rest of the world calls soccer "football". We call soccer "soccer" just to differentiate between the two sports.

Well, Americans already have a Football. The one with more hands involved. At the risk of confusion, they had to invent the word Soccer to clarify things.

We have american football as you would call it and involves people at an average weight of 275lbs (about 125kg) ramming into each other. This is more popular in america and they just decided to call this football, I don't know why they called it football but that is the reason we still call it soccer
