Zidane's mere presence in the field has a huge impact on his teammates even if he does nothing. but after he was sent off, france dominated the rest of the match. so france's loss should not be blamed on Zizou. the main problem was Malouda. he got a lot of chances but his shots were not good. if someone else like wiltord or trezeguet was in his place, france could have won. and domenech should be blamed for not using trezeguet in other matches. domenech did not let him play in other matches(except vs togo and 3 minutes vs korea) and put him directly in the final. and trezeguet faced a lot of pressure as he was, without any doubt, the best french player during the penalty shoot out. henry, vieira were substituted. thats why he faced a lot of pressure and missed the penalty. a striker like trezeguet should not be used as a sub. domenech should know that.
and zidane did not deserve further punishment. he was sent off and that should have been the end of this story. but FIFA should investigate about the fourth official.

I think the chances of France winning would be higher if Zidane wasn't ejected. And no, I don't think he deserves to be punished further. But I definitely think Materazzi should be.

Italy would of won since France had one more penalty kick to go and Zidane could take it. Italy still would of won 5-4 on penalty kicks "if" Zidane scored. So either way zidane playing or not France would of lost.

ABSOLUTELY France would have won if Zidane didn't get the red card, and hadn't he fall into the stupid Italian trap. I think landing on second place is enough punishment, esp. he is a retire soccer legend, give him a break. Three days of community service serves the justice system of the not-so-wise FIFA orginization.

To answer the first part of the question, the truth is no one really knows, to offer an opinion on that is just that an opinion, but that is not how the match panned out. As for further punishment FIFA are the ones who have heard the facts from both their mouths and have made a decision based on what they are now aware of and what they are told. That is all we can go with. I am sure that they know now more than we do, so the decision they made has to be accepted as fair. If it were not do you not think the players would have reacted more to their punishments. They both know they got off lightly.

Italy still would of won. Even if Zidane played and made his penalty kick other France players would have to make their kicks also. They didn't! Trezeguat one of France top players missed his penalty shot while Italy made all theirs.

Italy would have still won but he does not deserve to be punished further unless its legal action for assault, but that would be funny
