Is it vibrating alot? If not, you don't need to replace it. You can test it by getting a pencil or using your pinkey, if you can fit it in there, it needs to be replaced. Aftermarket mounts don't usually last very long, but it seems premature for the motor mount to be wearing out if it's what came with the car. Model? S-series, Ion?
S-Series mounts are fairly durable. Take a look at it yourself. It's in the passengers side of the engine, the left side of the engine when you are looking at it from infront of your car. It's sort of an upsidedown U shaped thing filled with rubber. If you can fit your pinkey between the metal and the rubber, it will need to be replaced at some point. It's not critical unless the mount is actually cracked, meaning the metal of the mount is damaged. I drive a first-gen S-series and have been doing my own work for years.
You'll be looking at between 40$ and about 70$ for the mount, depending on whether you go with an Anchor mount or an OEM replacement. I have an Anchor mount in my car and it's lasted about 30k so far. The OEM mounts last somewhat longer.
Hope this helps shed some light on the problem!

yes!
I recently had mine changed for the first time - after over 200000 miles. If it is a $100 repair, go for it, if not, have a male friend take your car to another garage to get a second opinion. They may have screwed up something when they factory-installed it 3 years ago.

Maybe they do this on Saturns....? Never heard of that. Timing belts are changed every so many miles, but I never heard of motor mounts.....

It is not uncommon for a motor mount to fail at 38K, there are a few variables, but does not sound unreasonable.

Just ask them to show you - if it's broken it's easy to see. Ask them to show you a bad one and a good one to compare - if it's broken, you can see it, if it's just couple of cracks on the rubber and no other problems by now - leave them. It's possible they can break at 40000 but it's also possible they just want to make more money on you.

It's not crazy if the car was abused, but other wise they should last a lot longer than that,
