I don't think he fixed it.....I think he just made a bunch of excuses which brought him back to not being able to get the water to wet the stone to sharpen the axe to cut the straw because there was a hole in the bucket.

ETA: I updated my answer after thinking about it for a minute, but before the the third answer showed up. You can't tell by the timestamp, so please award the third answer as the first person to answer. I don't want it to seem like I saw it and revised mine.

There's a hole in my bucket,
dear Liza, dear Liza,
There's a hole in my bucket,
dear Liza, a hole.

Well fix it, dear Henry,
dear Henry, dear Henry,
Well fix it, dear Henry, well fix it.

With what shall fix it, . . .
With straw, . . .
The straw is too long, . . .
Well cut it, . . .
With what shall I cut it, . . .
With an axe, . . .
The axe is too dull, . . .
Then sharpen it, . . .
With what shall I sharpen it, . . .
With a stone, . . . .
The stone is too dry, . . .
Then wet it, . . .
With what shall I wet it, . . .
With water, . . . .
In what shall I fetch it, . . .
With a bucket, . . .
There's a hole in my bucket, . . .

Trick question...it never was "fixed". The song started, and ended, with the hole still in the bucket.

No lisa, when I posted my answer, yours had already changed...technically, you got it right FIRST! So, let the asker decide...I'm not trying to hog ALL the action (I've been pretty fortunate...so far!) ;)

in the version i know, Its not a straw, but a strop. its a wide leather strap that was used to sharped an old fashioned straight blade razor. and he was to cut it with a knife. but he never fixed the bucket.
