Zidane's 3 game suspension appears to be a moot point since he is retiring. He has agreed to do community service on behalf of FIFA.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the suspensions but a player can be cautioned (yellow) for taunting and if the taunting is really bad the can and MUST be sent off (red). That is FIFA's directive.
Now the question is should FIFA use video, lip readers, testimonies, psychics, etc. as evidence of wrong doing? They do for violent conduct but I don't think they have ever used them for Verbal comments. If Materazzi did do the crime then he desrves it. As for Zidane he's a legend regardless of the head butt and to give him a 5 game suspension is irrelevant because he's going to serve the suspension in the form of "community service" He's going to do some work with kids.

Wow. Zidane got off way too easily. He should have been suspended for way more games then Materazzi. I guess it doesn't matter since he is retiring but he should have to do a lot of community service. His headbutt was uncalled for no matter what was said.

Materazzi got the shaft. Everybody talks **** in sports. He shouldn't be punished for Zidane's reaction.

FIFA is a joke! Zidane got off way to easy! Materazzi should of NOT been punished at all. It's trash talking FIFA! This means FIFA needs to investigate every player in this World Cup who MAY of trashed talked and suspend and/ or fine them. It's only fair. It looks like Zidane may of paid FIFA off on this one! Or FIFA is afraid of Zidane because he may headbutt them!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did FIFA forget all the times that Zidane lost his temper before?
Whats next, FIFA fines and/or suspends players in the next World Cup because they cheer after a win, because they might hurt the losing teams feelings!

The point is Materazzi ADMITTED that he DID said something to insult Zidane. That's why he has to be punished.

I think the committee did great, punishing both players. Although it was surprising to see that zidane got off so easily. Nevertheless, I'm glad it's over..
