I was just wondering, do gay people still get beat up a lot in southern areas? Can someone who is gay love someone freely there or is there still too much hate and misunderstanding? Does it depend on the state?

I guess it would be equivalent to how they treat people of color. Where ever you go...there's a chance of problems.

Depends on the state. I've lived in South Carolina where the bigger towns and cities are usually fairly gay friendly. Columbia SC has gay pride events. Charlotte NC is a little more reserved but I haven't heard of any violence or discrimination.
However in Philadelphia I was witness to several incidents where people were harassed for being gay. I was really surprised.

pay interest to gay South Africans. sure South Africa contained in the books is amazingly open, yet that position isn't secure haven. The propose had memories of a lesbian who became raped with the intention to made experience like a 'actual female.' So i'm positive it should be a astounding position, yet be careful that you're taking all precautions you may soak up the different usa. do not bypass down any darkish streets or unfriendly places. some human beings contained in the interviews stated that it became an truly good position, yet they did not pick to furnish their names and were having interesting in gay places. So it is plausible =D clone of the different position you'll locate those who do not approve. compared to different African international places South Africa is astounding =D you received't get deported or despatched to detention center, purely because you're gay and they ban discrimination in protecting with SEXUAL ORIENTATION of their structure, the only usa contained in the international that does that =D. it is awesome by technique of regulation, and no different compares contained in the region.

Thats a long list of crazy non-helpful answers.

Anyway, as a gay guy in Texas, I would say all is well in the big cities and in the smaller cities, most don't really care as long as youre a polite person and not rude.

Rural areas and really small towns can still be a little bit tricky though.

its not equal yet, but there are pockets of cities that are gay friendly... I think I heard Savannah and Atlanta are good... but I don't know about anyplace else. Good Ole Southern boys can still run a pretty ignorant and intolerant contingent, unfortunately

The south... good ol' boys toting guns and driving with confederate flags on their trucks... strapping dead deer to the hood... blaring country music... do you really think they accept gays? Maybe in the bigger cities, but don't try to be gay in the south unless you lived here all your life... sorry... I wouldn't mind, but southerners are just a bunch of bible beating republicans...
