I was thinking of getting a laptop because they seem very convenient and useful. Are there any disadvantages about having one? Do they get internet access? How do I operate it and keep it working? How long do they last? What kinds are the best...basically, do you know ANY helpful information about them? Im confused! :)

I own an HP Pavillion ze5375us, that I have had for almost three years..I think laptops are alot better than desktops because they are more partable, you can go anywhere with them because it all right there in one small package.

2. Yes, they can have a modem and get internet acces only if you have an ISP.
3. Like an ordinary computer but the keyboard and mouse are built in.
3a. Get an in internet security suite and install it and get a standalone antispyware program and run it regularly.
4. As long as you give it basic maintenance, you could upgrade it once, maybe twice, and keep it in good running condition.
5. Sony, Compaq, HP (crappy support), Dell, Acer, IBM

I own a Toshiba Satellite series laptop. I have had it for about 3 months now, and would really hate to lose it.
I have wireless internet access, can hook a monitor up to it, if I want to, I would suggest a better battery because this one's battery only lasts an hour when not connected to AC power.
As for how long they last, that depends on how well you take care of it.

dumb question are you a noob to computers. any ways to answer your Q's

There are almost no disadvatages it's like a desktop except smaller and mobile

Yes they get internet either through wireless, lan, or dial-up

It works the same way a desktop does

They last as long as you want them to last (the battery lasts 3 years max, but the laptop lasts a while)

The cheapest is dell, the best, in my opinion, is HP

laptops are more expensive. They are baiscly like desktops but smaller. There are couple disadvantages. They are more likly to get broken when they get dropped. They also get stolen alot. plus they are very hard to upgrade. The parts are more expensive such as the hard disks.

technically sure. Abit and some different comp businesses have had pc construction competitions. yet is it as basic as construction computers? actual no longer. compared to computers, pc parts are not from now on universal. no longer all parts will fit ur case. random parts will no fit with eachother. with the point to construct ur personal pc, u virtually ought to specoally order ur parts. value wise, its purely no longer properly worth it.
