i dunno. why is it that when you transport something by ship, its called cargo, but when you transport something by car, its called shipment? the world may never know. (by the way isnt it, why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways? i mean, people park in parking lots so your question is a little silly.)

A driveway is the part of your property in front of the final stopping place for your car. Since the garage usually the finally stopping place the space in front of it is a driveway. Technically I guess you could call a garage a parking lot!
