i think its a good idea--the cfl would have to change their rules to nfl rules and their season i think this is a really good idea anyways

It's an intriguing idea but I think sports has over-expanded and the quality of play has suffered for it. Then there is the difference in the money earned by the players. The exchange rate would cause a disparity that either league is not currently in a position to deal with. I haven't investigated why the CFL backed out of the expansion into American markets. For now, perhaps after the Grey Cup and Super Bowl champions are determined, the winners can play a game to crown the Continental Champions. Or they could have an all-star game to be held alternately in each country and rotating city to city.

I've read rumors that the NFL has looked at buying the CFL (they are in some financial woes) but not with a merger in mind. The NFL considered it as a option prior to setting up the World Football League they have now. If it ever did happen it might be as an expansion of the World League not the NFL per say.

I'm intrigued by your suggestion, but dubious because:

1. The CFL has 9 teams and 2 have the same nick name !!!
2. Only 2 or 3 CFL teams have stadiums large enough.
3. The weather would be a major impediment.
4. Due to weather, CFL starts and ends about 2 months earlier.
5. Players will want to be paid in U.S. dollars.
6. etc., etc.

There have been a couple of preseason games in the past.
Ironing out the rule differences is the least of the problems.
I am an NFL season ticket holder but have attended and enjoyed a couple of CFL games. I prefer some of the CFL rules. They encourage wide open football. How can you not like teams with nick names like Blue Bombers, Eskimos, Argonauts, and Roughriders (twice - !!). They even have nicknames for the nick names - Eskies, Roughies, Argos, Leos (BC Lions), etc.

I wouldn't like it at all. The CFL doesn't have anywhere close to the skill of the NFL. It just wouldn't be fair to merge them, the CFL teams wouldn't be able to compete. If we were to merge two football leagues the NFL and the European Football League would make more sense then the NFL and CFL.

I'm not too familiar with the CFL, so I'd like them to stay separate. I love the NFL.

There's a reason why people call Canada "America Jr." The CFL is "NFL Jr." and it should stay that way.

No way. There are just enough, maybe one or two teams too many, in the nfl right now. You don't want to water down the sport too much.

And what version of football would they play? They have different size fields and different rules. I vote no for many reasons.
