Trees are struck by lightning all the time & many survive.

However I would bet that the trees life will be shortened due to borers, rot & disease that will be attracted to the injured area. It could be years or decades before anything becomes apparent.

If you have the money, call a tree professional.

I'm in the south, too. We had a tree struck by lightning. It has now lived for over 10 years. Keep it well watered during these hot months. Remember to water as far out as the longest branch. It should be okay.
